Highway full of Squares
Yesterday Kathryn and I did our usual drive through Northern Virginia... and we decided to play a game called squares where we would point out all the "squares" driving on the road and find one worthy enough to crown King. Seeing as we live in a metropolitan area, this was hard because there are just so many. It also helped that it was rush hour and all the squares were driving home from work anyway. That aside, our winner just happened to be the first guy we saw. He truly deserved the title for he drove a black Saab, had the typical comb over, the polo, kakis and black shoes.... (yes, we stuck around long enough to see him get out of the car, no we weren't stalking him, we happpend to be going to the same place). It was a pretty classic moment. To our dismay, I think after the hour or so that was spent pointing and laughing at all the squares made us realize that we're not as young as we'd like to think we are. We're boardering 20. Which is still young, yes. However, not very many years separate us from becoming those people that we pointed and laughed at which is a very scary thought. Internships will begin, focus will change and careers will be the highlight of our lives... though it's a very natural transition and one that many people pass through quite gracefully, it's kind of sad to think that these are our last few years of care free living. That may have been the last time that we would ever drive around and point at squares before becoming squares ourselves... but, until then, I have my whole summer and at least another guaranteed year of that "care free" living that I speak so fondly of.
