As promised here's the poem of the day from that literary magazine I was telling you about.
Christmas on interstate 28
By: Alek Shamloo
Man 1
Walks along an overpass.
Wind at his left side. Just 43 degrees.
Cars beneath his feet.
Buried beneath the cement.
He climbs over the barricade.
Toes to the edge... contemplating suicide.
Steel rushing towards him.
Cars blaring below him.
Man 2
Looks at the picture of his daughter in his rear view mirror.
He simply cannot wait to hold her.
He knows it's Christmas and her gifts are waiting in the back.
Wrapped by him.
Bought by him.
The car ahead of him quickly swerves.
Man 3
His hands covered in the blood of his newly wed wife.
Travels along the freeway for an escape.
Nothing to lose.
He's traveling faster than everyone else.
THe gun rests beside his leg.
Feels cold on his hand.
Lets it rest on his lips.
Man 1
Turns his back to the cars...
Wants one more day.
Man 2
Swerves away from car.
Daughters' picture falling from the mirror.
Man 3
Puts a metal slug through the roof of his car.
Falls forward with foot on gas.
13 car pileup by man's suicide attempt.
One car reportedly flipped over and clipped an overpass.
Striking a man and killing him instantly. Behind me
You see Christmas presents thrown from a car that was torn in
half. The driver who caused the wreck was... life lighted and recovering from a bullet that entered his mouth and exited through his left cheek.
