At 11:33 pm... Doups totally came to the rescue and turned this day around.
Thanks, it means a lot.
Doups of CAN: even if it turns out bad, I still think you're ok
Doups of CAN: no, you're slightly better than ok
Doups of CAN: okay, I lied you're great
*I'm so lucky to have such good friends.

Today was the worst day in the history of the otherwise gnarly Semester Deux.
a) Every school in VA was cancelled except for ours.
Reasoning: Tech's heated sidewalks are superior to ice and snow
b) Professors have the ability to cancel classesif they so choose in the case of inclimate weather (like today), so many professors were nice and did that, except for mine
c) I had to go to the Math Emporium
d) I didn't do as well as I would have liked at the Emporium
e) My appetite is shot to shit so I haven't consumed real food in 2 days... or any food with real nutritional value unless you consider a Metabolism booster smoothie from Freshens "a cup full of nutritional value"
f) Just had the urge to crawl into a dark corner and never come out today
g) I have a lot of work to do
h) Hall meeting tonight, perfect timing right?
i) I still feel really bad

True or False
Vrai ou Faux?
Even though we make mistakes all the time, and are fickle with love, I say these are the best days of our lives. What about you? How do you feel about this? Leave a comment. : )
Vrai ou Faux?
Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up
These are the best days of our lives
The only thing that matters is just following your heart
And eventually you'll finally get it right

We're so nice to each other... don't you and your friends talk to each other like this?

Ugh I have only totalled about 2 hours of sleep. Why? Because while I was sleeping, a guy from the 3rd floor climbed into my bed (my door was open since Sarah didn't have a key) and I woke up to his snoring. He is a hardcore sleeper, I had Zdub come over and try to wake him up, but no such luck so I slept next door in Jane's bed (she wasn't here last night) and now I'm freezing, and he's still in my bed, when all I want to do is just get under MY covers. Quite the conundrum. Quite a random night. I really want him to wake up and go back to wherever he came from so I can sleep in my bed. And as for last night, I had fun up until when I got back here and that's when I think my night should be deleted because I really wish I could forget it.

And this is why we heart Jizzames.
James: hey I'm going back to my room real quick, do you want anything?
Me: yeah, bring me a present
* 10 minutes later*
James: I brought you a present, it's a spoon. I haven't used it yet.
Me: Awesome thanks! This is the best present ever
James: Yeah I know, it's clean too!

Adam: Did you know that Tech's colors have been Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange for the past 110 years? Before then, they were Black and White
Me: Did you read that off of the flyer that's above all the urinals?
Adam: yeah.... wait, how did you know that was above all the urinals? Isn't this an all guy building

I'm done feeling like a skeleton no more sleep walking dead
You're going to wake from this coma, you're going to crawl from this bed you have made
And stop counting on that camera that hangs round your neck
Because it won't ever remember what you choose to forget
As you try to find some source of light, try to name one thing you like
You used to have such a longer list, and light you never had to look for it
But now it's so easy to second guess everything you do
Until all you want is to finish this half empty glass before the ice melts away
This feeling always used to pass, but seems like it's every day seems like its every night now

Jason Mraz is just beyond words
Check out his new material here, I absolutely LOVE this:
"Gypsy" - Quite possibly my new favorite song
His voice is phenomenal in this... just blows my mind. It may take awhile to load, but it's totally worth it. Don't forget to leave comments and let me know what you think :D

Bolevard Du Montparnasse
-Mary Jo Salter
Once, in a doorway in Paris, I saw
the most beautiful couple in the world.
They were each the single most beautiful thing in the world.
She would have been sixteen, perhaps; he twenty.
Their skin was the same shade of black: like a shiny Steinway.
And they stood there like the four-legged instrument
of a passion so grand one could barely imagine them
ever working, or eating, or reading a magazine.
Even they could hardly believe it.
Her hands gripped his belt loops, as they found each other's eyes,
because beauty like this must be held onto,
could easily run away on the power
of his long, lean thighs; or the tiny feet of her laughter.
I thought: now I will write a poem,
set in a doorway on the Boulevard du Montparnasse,
in which the brutishness of time
rates only a mention; I will say simply
that if either one should ever love another,
a greater beauty shall not be the cause.

And... that's how I feel about Monday. :) Here in Blacksburg, at this exact moment, it is 58 degrees, which is almost 60 which is pretty nice for February. So today started off a bit slow. I wasn't too well rested from last night so being alert in class just wasn't happening. Also, it's President's Day and almost everyone in this country has the day off... of course Virginia Tech is not one of those schools who plays the "give your students a day off because you love them" game. My mom is shopping right now. I am jealous. Ha ha anyway... I checked my grade for a quiz I took on Friday in my Social Psyc class and I thought I failed it because I thought I really bombed one of the two 40 point questions (yeah it was a 100 point quiz, with two 40 point questions). So I pretty much thought I did a crappy job, but I checked my grade and ended up getting an A which rocks. I guess my BS skills are superior. So that made my case of the Mondays not so bad. Randomly met one of Jane's friends today who was also really funny. We ended up talking about Social Psyc a lot and I'm guessing he's a Psyc major too? Who knows, anyway, he was cool, and he lives in my building and that's good, because we need more cool guys not only in my building but just at this school. Went to Social Psyc and my professor let us out early because he could sense that we all had a "case of the Monday's" so he was like yeah just leave. I met up with Sarah and went to lunch with her.... and came back and checked my e-mail to see that KEVIN FIELDS sent a board-wide e-mail. Pretty sweet, not gonna lie. So now my day has been made. My abs are feeling a little tight. And I can just picture the smiles on Robbie and Nina's faces when they check their inboxes.

Mike finally got Flickr and you can check it out here on his blog:
Really frikin' good pictures... just a click away
By the way, just in case you didn't know, Flickr is coming at you in the form of a stream of picture thumbnails going down the side of his blog. So that's what that is. Enjoy, because I really did, oh and buy pictures too because they're phenomenal. Especially that metro one.

Ugh, boys are so annoying
unless of course their names are: Mike as in UVA Mike, Chris, Kaj, Drew 1, Matt, Jase, Todd, Zach or Patrick...
I swear this week has been ridiculous. I swear this shit never ever ever stops. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of boys unless I mentioned your name. I'm never talking to boys again. GOSH! (<~ napoleon style - you know what I mean).

DUCK FUKE!
Who's house? - Our House!
So VT beat Duke tonight 67-65 in the Cassell! Sa-weet!
My conversation with Kaj throughout the night:
K4Jx0r: watching the tech game
K4Jx0r: beat duke
Surf N Waves 04: wait, did something along the lines of "go tech" just come from kaj's fingertips?
Auto response from K4Jx0r: go hokies! beat duke.
Surf N Waves 04: ha ha I LOVE YOUR AWAY MESSAGE
K4Jx0r: i'll root for tech whenever they're not playing us
K4Jx0r: and i'll pretty much root for anyone over duke
Surf N Waves 04: WE BEAT DUKKEEEE!

Surf N Waves 04: ha ha i do too! especially to us
Surf N Waves 04: Looks like J.J. Reddick is going to be writing emo poems on the ride home tonight
K4Jx0r: haha!
K4Jx0r: i hope he cries
(*Sidenote: Kaj and I have a joke about J.J. Reddick being emo because he told ESPN he writes poems to help him cope with "negative energy" from "haters.")
K4Jx0r: in fact i'm a hokies fan tonight
Gosh, I always knew he had it in him... now he can be conflicted like me. What an awesome way to wrap up what would have been a really disappointing Thursday. Thanks Kaj, VT basketball players and crappy Duke basketball players... especially J.J. Reddick, the one with the backne.

I don't want to feel this way forever, a dead letter marked return to sender.
Yeah so this is how my day unfolded. Went to CW this morning which was awesome, great bonding time with my group so that was good, lots of laughs, lots of stories, food, fun, the works.... love them to death. Got back shit happened, I was a little disappointed but it's nothing that I'm not used to by now so whatever that's fine. Talked to Sigma J who is awesome and kinda helped me through it the whole day. I don't know, I was just kind of bothered the whole day because I realized today that the people you think you could count on will find a way to let you down. So I decided I'm just going to close that chapter in my life and forget it all together because it's just not fair to me and I'm sick of dealing with this time and time again.
So let's start today, that's what we say now let's move on.
PS: I love the sigmas. We went to the gym, and did dinner tonight and we followed up with a social. These girls are awesome, I love them.

Song of the Day: Guster's "Fa Fa"
Perfect if you're in the mood to get into a car and drive down an endless road... 81 might do the trick.
So last night, I burnt popcorn in the room and now it smells like burning and I think I'm sick again because I left the windows open last night and I sleep next to them. Oh well, I'll be home this weekend anyway so i'll have access to so much Earl Grey I won't even know what to do with myself. :)
Cool News for Cool people who want to hear loser news
Last night I got a phone call from a number I didn't know and it was a guy who told me I had an interview tomorrow. I never knew about this because I already have an internship set up for the summer thanks to my Mom. Anyway, he calls and is like yeah one of your professors reccommended you and I just wanted to see if you could make the interview tomorrow (which is today) so that's basically how it went. A cool internship position fell into my lap thanks to some mysterious professor. I don't know if I'll actually do it or not, I don't even know if I'll get the position, but it pays 8,000 over the summer so that would be nice. But I have planned trips to New York and California for weeks at a time so I don't know how flexible they'll be. Anyway, I guess I might as well try right? Couldn't hurt. So here's to awesome chances.

Post Valentines Day is always so fucking kick ass.
Okay so let's start of with how awesome this day has already been...
- 65 degrees out today. HOT DAMN!
- My Creative writing class is awesome because there is this ridiculous girl in it that really just outdid herself today. Normally, annoying and not fun to be around, Elizabeth has manged to TOP that. We had a workshop today... (our last workshop!) and after somebody reads their poem they just sit there and everyone else critiques... and when you critique, you normally raise your hand and wait to be called on. Nope, not if you're Elizbath, nope, because if you're Elizabeth, you can say whatever the fuck you want, whenever the fuck you want. And I mean before, her timing has always been bad, and her comments always discounted... and before there was just a general concensus between a few girls who all felt she was a bit off... but today it was confirmed that every person in the class including our professor thinks so. I guess you just have to be there, some of the looks on our faces were classic. Especially on the guys faces when she started talking. I feel bad making fun of her because no one deserves that, but she doesn't really care for any of us and she's rude... so I'm just going to say what's on my mind and that's that.
- Zach and I had our Bio test today and we pretty much totally dominated it so hardcore it hurt. Like it would suck so bad to be that Bio test at the mercy of the hands of Mary and Zack. Fuck yeah we rock. We also studied a whole frikin lot last night.
- Brandon fixed my computer. AIM use is made possible again. Except I lost some screen names, oh well. I figure if something important comes up and I really have to, I'll find a way to. Until then, I won't really worry about it.
- Zach and I gave blood after our Bio test after we did lunch at ABP which was fun. Too bad we started off in Squires and we had appointments but the wait was like over an hour long so we were like bump this and decided to go to Red Cross instead where there was no wait and we rocked the blood giving chairs. Only he passed out. Ha ha, needless to say I totally won the blood filling contest by a whole minute. BOO YAH.
- I'm going to dinner with the Sigmas later tonight :) which makes me happy because I haven't seen them in forever.
And now, I get to take a sweet nap. Sa-weeeeet.

Sa-weeeeet.
Ugh what a cruddy rainy Monday!
TGIT... well, it's 1:56 am right now... so technically it is Tuesday.
And the weather man says it's going to be 65 degrees and SUNNY!
Zack and I are giving blood after our Bio test which should be fun, we decided to have a blood war and see who can fill up the bags quickest. I think I've got it on lock down. The last time I gave blood, the needle was in and out in a matter of minutes. But we'll see, I'll let you know how it goes. I think it will be tres fun. Have a good one guys! It's going to be so amazing out.
Gosh I wish I had a car, I'd drive to Wake Forest and scope out CP3 with Kaj in a heartbeat today if I could.

Valentines Day sucks ass.
Story.
Devin was taking a walk with her friend Zooley one day this past week because it's been nice and they went to the Village (Oh, this is happening at Wake for clarification purposes) and went around too all the shops. She went into one boutique-ish place and the woman had put out a gorgeous Swarovski bracelet out and the lady said it was one of her favorites that she kept behind the counter but figured she should leave it out for Valentines Day since someone would probably buy it. Devin loved the bracelet but told the lady she couldn't afford it being a college student at a private school and all. Well the other day (Saturday) a few days after this walk to the Village, Zooley went to Atlanta for the weekend. Zooley knew Devin was going to a date function that night with one of the boys from her favorite frat so before he left he slipped into Devin's room and put a box on her desk... there was also a card he attached that said, "Hey I thought you could wear this tonight to the date function. Happy Valentines Day, Love Zooley" And surely enough, inside the box was that Swarovski bracelet that Devin really wanted.
Moral of the story: I will never have guy friends like that at Tech, so I can forget about anyone doing that for me. :( Good guys don't exist anymore, or they do in very minimal numbers and one of the rarities goes to Wake Forest and his name is Zooley. I want a Zooley! Not particularly him, but a really kick ass person like him at Tech.
Sidenote: Now I know the whole bracelet thing sounds really materialistic and you're like oh, so Mary just wants somebody to buy her Swarovski bracelets (and while that would be really awesome and I would have no problem objecting), that is not the case. I want a good friend like that. Someone who does really cool stuff like that, maybe leave a message on my white board or wish me luck on a test from time to time. I want a Zooley damnit! And Zooley is awesome, we met him when we visited Wake and this guy is just so genuinely nice. Someone who will go out of his way to make you feel at home, just the epitome of Southern Hospitality even though he's from Cleveland... he is nice to EVERYBODY even though he doesn't know you. Nice is an understatement, if you ever get the chance to meet him, you'll see what I mean. Drew1, Matt, and Sarah will all vouch for me. This kid is amazing and every girl should have someone like him.
Stream of Consciousness thinking a la Mary...
I hate this stupid holiday. Okay well not "hate" but I guess I'm more indifferent towards it. I would like to have a nice guy in my life (any girl would) right now... possibly be in a commited relationship (GASP!) so that aspect of the holiday makes me cringe... seeing happy couples everywhere. However, on the flip side, I have no desire to date anyone that goes to Tech... why? Because every guy I have come in contact with at this school has ended up being a jerk or someone who I just don't want to persue a relationship with. Plus, I think relationships with people from other schools work better anyway. I hate clingyness... and I guess why that's why I can never date anyone at Tech because I'd almost be expected to eat with this person everyday or be around them everyday. I'd have to spend my weekends with them and that would just annoy me. I like to go out with my friends on weekends and such and I don't think I could handle someone who couldn't accept that or accept the fact that I do have a lot of guy friends that I visit at other schools, or ones that visit me here, or ones that even go here. And I do go out for lunch or go to sporting events with these people and I know a lot of guys would get mad if their girlfriends ditched them for other guys which is SO annoying. Why?! Don't they have friends that are girls that they like to hang out with too? I would prefer dating someone at another school just because of that. That and there are no decent boys at Tech. They say "distance makes the heart grow fonder" and I think it's true. Because if you don't see the person on a daily basis, you have more to talk about, and you value your time spent with them more because you know it's limited (unless it's Summer of course), but you see what I mean. You won't have to deal with clingyness. You'll have incentive to get through your weeks knowing that in however many days you can roadtrip to their school and see them. I think it would work out well... I'll have to test this hypothesis.
Anyway, to all of you coupley couples out there, have a great Valentines Day (and I genuinely mean that), you guys are very fortunate to have found each other and I'm happy for you. And to the rest of us... well, our times will come, but just look foward to the fact that really awesomely good candy will be available the day after at 50% off... so you can drown your sorrows in chocolate later... but bask in the glory of your singleness tomorrow and enjoy the fact that you didn't have to buy anyone a Swarovski bracelet and put a hole in your bank account.

Well I have been Happy the past couple days.
(What song is this from? If you know, I'll give you a cookie)
Gasp! It's true. Not just lyrics. I am for once, happy again. Maybe not completely happy, but getting there... kind of, maybe. I've just been in an upbeat mood lately. I guess I can attribute that to the past couple of days and the awesome weather we've been having until today (where did the snow come from?). But today didn't get me down. Today was like my sigh of releif from all the tests I've had up until Wednesday. I didn't think this day would ever come. I'm not that sick anymore. I can almost fully use my respiratory system! It's a good feeling... (ha ha the little things in life). But lately it's been good, I've kind of worked out some things that I needed to work out with people. Got over the hurdles that I needed to get over... started working things out with myself. Still have people blocked just because I think this whole "talk to people that really know what's going on in your life" thing is really working out well. Keeping my close circle of friends closer than ever before. It's a good feeling. It's all falling into place. I'm happy and smiley. And I work out too much sometimes, but that's ok. Plans for this summer are in the making... New York trip seems to look good and California trip seems to look better. :) Classes have been going well. I love my classes, and I love my schedule. This semester has been amazing academically. I think I may sign up to do Psyc Fieldstudy for next year which I'm really excited about. I'm being inspired by so many people. I went to a book reading today - an amazing author flew in from Florida, and I got to hear her read. It was really surreal, it made me happy. The Sigmas are so amazing, each and every one of them. Always there for me when I need to talk, always there to help me sort things out and make sense of this crazy life. And... *deep breath* I'm finally accepting all the bad things that have happened and just accepting that that's life. Just embracing it, grieving when I need to (which I have done a lot this past month, believe me...I may have seemed silent to you but there were nervous break down days where tears were shed) talking about things with people. Calling old friends from home, and just being so comforted. I'm feeling really happy with where I am right now... but we'll see. Monday is just around the corner and well... I'm not looking forward to Valentines Day.

Kerry makes me laugh...
Kerr003: i like that message, that's a good message!
Auto response from Surf N Waves 04: There's something about the look in your eyes
Something I noticed when the light was just right
It reminded me twice that I was alive
And it reminded me that you're so worth the fight
*Kerr, it's Incubus! I had an urge to listen to Make Yourself today and this song was the first one I played and then my yearnings for Brandon Boyd escalated to an all time high.
Tomorrow is Friday... and that means, I'm cutting Todd's hair for him. (Hopefully I don't fuck it up too badly) and then he'll probably end up going to get a real cut with Matt... that is, if I totally fuck it up. I'm going to try not too. Plus, it's FRIDAYYYYY! Heck yeah! :) Happiness!

there are songs to be sung, and pages to be filled with memories
there are roads to be traveled in places i have never seen
there are postcards to send, and so much beauty just to take in
there are dreams to be chased, and friends to be held more dearly
there is love to be seen more clearly
there are fears to be faced, and tremblings to understand
there are new days to brave, and all this foolish pride to lay down in your hands

well let the poets cry themselves to sleep. and all their tearful words will turn back into steam. but me, i'm a single cell on a serpent's tongue. there's a muddy field where a garden was. i'm glad you got away, but im still stuck out here. my clothes are soaking wet from your brother's tears. and i never thought this life was possible. you're the yellow bird that i've been waiting for. the end of paralysis. i was a statuette. now im drunk as hell on a piano bench. and when i press the keys, it all gets reversed. the sound of loneliness makes me happier
A song that pretty much captures the essence of dreamy Wake Forest boys....
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much
At long last love has arrived,
and I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak.
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it's real
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Argyle, Boat shoes, and polos, OH MY!
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much
At long last love has arrived,
and I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak.
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it's real
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Argyle, Boat shoes, and polos, OH MY!
And we think that Valentines Day SUCKS.
Jerry came over and we watched the Super Bowl and attempted to do homework today. I'm always sick on Superbowl Sunday. It's so weird. Anyway she was rooting for the Patriots just because she didn't like Philly's colors. What a nerd. So Valentines Day is coming up. *Gag* And she and I decided that we are boycotting it this year because it's going to suck. We can't even go out because we'll see happy people everywhere, which in turn will just make our sad lives sadder than they normally are. It's like the rub it in your face day. The day where you just remember how much your life sucks because people are just reaffirming that it does... a day where you look back on loves of the past and wonder why you ever let certain people go. Anyway so Jerry and I will probably order in and cry or do something cool like that. We also decided tonight that we are ready for boyfriends this semester because last semester was about "experiencing" the joys and awkward moments of college and believe me there were many... but we both felt it was time to find some stability. We had a long conversation during the BORING superbowl... and we just figured that we didn't want to settle for people even though we could because we figured there's no point in dating someone you don't like. So we have made a pact not to compromise any of our "standards" and not sell ourselves short... which basically translates to, we'll be loners forever. Anyway, V-day sucks. We hate it. Don't you?!
Random (but good and much needed) surprise of the Day:
Kaj called last night at 2am (so technically this morning) and left a message saying that he was coming to the Wake v. Tech game today! I have been sick all week so I was knocked out on meds sleeping hardcore when he called but this morning waking up to that message was kind of fun. It was hard trying to find a last minute ticket but everything worked out and he kind of spontaneously showed up. Ha ha Spontaneous seems to be the theme of the week... cough Bright Eyes concert in Raleigh cough. But this was a really nice surprise. Kaj is such a cool kid and he came with Adam which made the visit even cooler. So we went to the game and it was a lot of fun, I cheered for both teams. I love both Wake & Tech... so whatever the outcome of the game (Wake won... duh) I knew I was going to be happy... I don't think my school was too happy with me though. I took Kaj and Adam to our Dining hall with Matt and Drew and everyone kind of glared... but face it, the Deacs are so awesome. And the "Paul You Suck" chant kind of made me mad because he had so many assists... so just because he didn't score doesn't mean that he sucks. But, today was a good day. I was happy, it was also 51 degrees outside! And I know I just saw Kaj last weekend, but it was good to hang out with familiar people from home again just because this week has been so crappy at points and I haven't been feeling well... so it was good just to forget about things for awhile... even if it was just today. So thanks for coming and surprising us. Matt, Drew, and I were really happy that you came and we're glad you had a good time. I know you like our food so the next time we go to Wake... tell us what you want from our Dining Hall and we'll bring it. :)
K4Jx0r: we're back safely...thank you so much for today, we had a blast.
K4Jx0r: come visit again...go deacs!!!
If only he had come for a Football Game...

Ugh and on top of everything I am sick. And Christy called just now and confirmed that even the people at UVA you think are decent really aren't. Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT easy to have two friends die within the same week.
Have you ever had one really good cry because everything that you've built up inside you decided to explode?
Because that's what I just experienced. Thanks life.

What is love?
(An exercise we did in my CW class, that I thought I'd share because, I just liked it)
Love is like a mixed CD from someone
Full of inside jokes that only you understand
Love is like a tiny fragment of perfection
Multiplied by one million, and then squared
Love is rebellion from Valentines Day
Because every day is Valentines Day
Love is like a phone call at 12:01 am
Wishing you a Happy Birthday
Love is someone just sitting with you
When you are too sick to move
Love is 10,000 used minutes
On a 5,000 minute plan
Love is holding a hand
That fits yours perfectly
Okay... now it's your turn... I'm serious, I better see the comments for this particular blog entry filled... What is love to you?

What's with today, today?!
I've got some beef with the University...
Classes wern't cancelled today so here's a heartfelt fuck you to VT from Mary. While Radford University, and all the Community Colleges, as well as ALL the schools in this area (High Schools, Middle Schools, Elementary Schools) are closed, VT is the only one that remains open. How balls-y. As I walked to class this morning, the friggin Snowplow man was chasing me with his snowplow so I decided to take my sweet time and walk in the middle of the sidewalk. I get to my Creative Writing class on the other side of campus (which is about the distance from Ashburn to Mongolia) only to get there to find out we're only going to be there for half an hour. GREAT. Then my prof. gets my hopes up and tells me that they may cancel afternoon classes, so I get back to my dorm to check blackboard and... NOTHING. Let it be known that I have the world's most boring class ever today... Bio with Lipscomb. Great! So horray Blacksburg and the shitty weather and being sick.
Speaking of being sick, it's times like these where I really want to be home in bed and cared after. I guess my sister and I have been spoiled by the care of nannies our whole lives and extra care especially the times when we were sick and I guess it's hard adjusting at college when you have to look after yourself. I sent my mom an e-mail asking for some Earl Grey with sugar cubes, anti-biotics and a nanny... oh and tissues too.
Realizations:
- I miss snow days
- I miss having a nanny
- I miss my stone fireplace and couch
- I like cupping my hands around a warm tea mug
- VT's Snow day cancellation policies are shhhhitay

Today's Happiness:
Well other than the post-shock of seeing Conor Oberst yesterday... I wake up and have to go to classes. Creative Writing... at 9:30, not too bad, made it there a little late, but didn't miss anything. Went to Bio where I could not even stay awake seeing as I got 3 hours of sleep last night? Yeah, that sucked, and on top of that my teacher is painfully monotenous. Anyhow, I went to check my mail in Pritchard today (a place where no one should be condemned to live) and not only did I get a lot of mail... and it was all for me. I got stuff from Mike so Mike this entry is dedicated to you. I hope you're reading.
This came as a total surprise because I didn't think he'd ever send these. BUT! Mike being a phenomenal photographer and all, I asked him if he could send me two black and white pictures that I was and am in love with. One is of the New York skyline as seen through a bridge, while the other is a black and white of the escalators in a DC metro. I wish I could show you these pictures, they're amazing. Mike, just to let you know I'm framing these and taking them with me wherever I go, and they will always adorn some part of my house. You have been named official wall decorator of Mary's house because I'm telling you now, my first apartment will be filled with your photographs. Anyway, when I opened the package I was just expecting either a 4 x 6 or even a printed picture on a piece of printer paper, but no! Mike is awesome and put them on two 8 x 10s and it's KODAK paper! Man this is so awesome, so that totally made my crappy day super awesome. Not to mention the little note he wrote inside totally made me laugh and I randomly turned it over to see that french dream house that he drew for me my senior year.
Now I have to go to the empo... but regardless... I am SO happy right now. Thanks for making my day Mike L. because it would have otherwise sucked... badly.

Recap of the Best day ever
Phenomenal does not even begin to explain the spontaneous decision to go drive 4 hours to Raleigh, NC on a Monday night to see Conor Oberst sing. As you have probably gathered, the concert was indeed worth the 8 hour round trip... getting back at 4am. He was beyond what words could even describe. It was like a dream or something. Okay now I know every time I go to a concert, I come back and I'm like yeah the live experience was great... and it usually is. But this concert was all of that and more. It was just so unique. I felt like I was watching Bob Dylan sing, it was such a surreal experience. I couldn't believe I was even there - Drew and I kept pinching each other just to make sure we wern't dreaming... no joke.
Conor is also one classy guy, the venue that he played in is called the BTI Center of Performing Arts located in the heart of Raleigh, NC. The venue was beautiful - like an opera house. We walked in and they were having a nice dinner party to the right of us and in the lobby they were serving liquor (the good stuff) - none of this beer crap. Nice richly colored carpet, and wall-papered walls. The stage was huge and the set up of the room worked so amazingly, we sat in velvet seats. I mean this guy really knows how to treat his fans. And I can't believe all that only cost me $20... Just amazing. And the crowd was refreshing, mostly college students so no little hormonally charged children running around. There were also a lot of old people there too, one guy went with his grandpa and some people even brought their parents - and it wasn't that they brought their parents because their parents wanted to come supervise (like at SoCo) - it's because they genuinely wanted to be there. It was so phenomenal. He reminds me so much of Bob Dylan and the old guy sitting in front of us was loving every second of it which made me happy because for that one moment, when he was "in it" and I was "in it" - it felt like a generation gap had been closed and that all of us in the room shared something - a mutual secret that we swore not to speak of once the concert ended because this was ours, for those few hours, we were one with Conor and vice versa.
The bands that opened for him were really unique as well - I surely have never heard of them, but I am now a convert. First up was Tilly and the Wall and they were awesome, I was hooked after the first song. There are 5 members in the band 3 girls, 2 guys. All three girls could tap dance and sing, one guy played the guitar and sang and the other guy played the piano. Anyway, it may sound corny, but the idea itself is so refreshing. They were able to combine elements of tap into their music which was mind blowing to me. To actually see it, hear it and feel it. Next up was CoCo Rosi which was amazing as well. She has a raspy and eerie voice, and she is accompanied by a french tap dancer/beat boxer/ singer/ scat-er... I started to wonder if there was anything this guy couldn't do and a girl who had rainbow hair. A bit of an offbeat combination but it grew on me and by the end of their set... I was converted. The french guy however... was ridiculously mind blowing.
Overall, this concert was the most aesthetically pleasing one that I have ever been to. And the best day of the year thus far. So far, second semester is off to an amazing start.
