"I'm the nerve in yo spasm
the if in yo riff
and the o in yogasm"

- Derrick Brown

The book I've been wanting came in the mail today! The mail room wasn't open when I went to go check, but the nice lady who gives us our packages went in and got it for me. I told her I had been trying to get this book for the past year and some odd days. Anyway, I opened the package in a fit of anticipation and saw that the author had signed the first page. This is what it said:

"Mary Anne, may these poems change your eyes at night and your mouth in the company of lovers."

I loved it. It was very appropriate. :D

Anyway, I've been reading it for the past half hour. Sadly, I have a lot of other work to do so I can't finish it in one sitting although I would gladly love to do that. It's a rainy day in Blacksburg so it's the perfect time to just sit in my bed and do a little reading for the soul... but alas. My favorite poem so far (note: this is subject to change since I have not finished reading this book) is called "QUARTER SLOTROCK for my friend, the end" and there's an excerpt from it above.

I prefer sleeping as my rainy day past time but I guess reading is good too. Glad to see I'm not the only person socked in with work.

It's terrible isn't it? I am not a fan of this two week "crunch time" period. My only motivation to do all this work is so I can finally read this book. Anyway, good luck with all of your work. And I agree, the best thing to do on a rainy day is sleep. I always think the sound of the rain hitting the windows or roof acts as a pretty nice metronome to the soundtrack of my nap. I love it.
